An oral-history conversation from Zion Canyon preserves a memory of seeing “Kilroy was here” on the route to Angels Landing.

A Remembered Sighting

In a 2004 Pioneer Voices of Zion Canyon oral-history interview, Janis Kali asks Betsy Alford whether she remembers going up Angels Landing and seeing “Kilroy was here.” Alford replies that she remembers seeing those markings, while contrasting them with her own reluctance to carve her name into rock.
