Kilroy sightings

Virginia CCC Plans

Kilroy-like figures hidden on Virginia State Parks plans push the familiar peering face back into the 1930s and early 1940s.

Peeking from the Blueprints

Virginia State Parks has identified Kilroy-like peering figures on Civilian Conservation Corps-era plans from several parks, including Fairy Stone, Hungry Mother, Seashore (now First Landing), Douthat, and Westmoreland. The drawings date from the 1930s and early 1940s, and many are associated with architects Thomas B. Staley and Edward Meyers Jr.

Documented · Archival discoveryThe surviving plans show the familiar peering figure before or around the beginning of the American wartime Kilroy tradition, although they do not contain the phrase “Kilroy was here.”
